A total of six children under the age of 13 including the provider’s own children are allowed in a regulated day home. A provider can have maximum of two children under 2 years old, and a maximum of three children under 3 years old.
As self-employed contracted individuals, each family day home provider sets her own hours. Most day homes are open between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm, Monday thru Friday. Some providers will accept various hours including evening, overnight, and weekend care.
Fees are due the first working day of each and every month or on the first day of care. Payment can be made by check, cash or Direct Withdrawal.
Each new provider receives core training and family child care training within one year of opening a day home.
Many providers have earned Alberta Child Care certificates as Child Care Assistant (Level 1), Child Care Worker (Level 2), or Child Care Supervisor (Level 3).
Day home providers plan and offer a variety of activities based on children’s interests that meet each child’s physical, emotional, social and intellectual development.
